“Botulinum toxin and dermal fillers: Pitfalls to avoid”

Dr. Tympanidis was invited by the Royal Society of Medicine section of plastic surgery, to share her insights into the frequent pitfalls and side effects that may occur during a skin aesthetic treatment.

Dr. Penelope Tympanidis made a brief reference to injection techniques and the various pitfalls which may be hidden including biofilm infection.

She also mentioned the fact that it is prudent to inform patients about the nature of the filler, duration of benefit, and the potential complications that might occur.

Dr. Penelope Tympanidis provided participants with a full overview of both early onset and late onset complications including blanching, erythema, embolism, allergies, persistent discoloration, infection, etc.

She also made a quick introduction to the different types of filler products analyzing the differences between them as well as how they can be useful or even catastrophic depending on specific circumstances.

Last but not least, Dr. Penelope Tympanidis also spoke about botulinium toxin and their various types. She gave exclusion criteria for specific individuals and she also provided participants with useful tips on how to avoid common pitfalls during a botulinium toxin injection.

The presentation begun with a full overview of the anatomy and physiology of the vulva as well as vulval skin conditions such as

bacterial infections and vulvodynia, cysts and non- neoplastic tumors as well as vulval epitherial tumors.

She also made a detailed reference on vulval aesthetics and the fact that this is an industry that is currently booming. Dr. Penelope Tympanidis stated the facts that Vulval Rejuvenation was enlarged by 63% in the United States since 2014, making vulval aesthetics the fastest growing part of the industry.
